1992 Mitsubishi GTO MkI
Rarer,
earlier JDM spec five-speed manual Z16A Twin Turbo AWD variant; Moda by BBS
wheels; rorty exhaust; adjustable aeros - cool in black
Dating from May 1992 this MkI Mitsubishi GTO (Z16A) comes to us as
a JDM spec import and is finished in desirable black, wearing a set of 17” Moda
(by BBS) alloy wheels with green brake callipers lurking behind the five-spokes
and as we heard, an after market exhaust system, the tail pipe tips similar to
those on a Porsche 911 of the 996 era.
This
GTO comes with a powerful and capable 3.0-litre transversely mounted
24-valve 6G-72 series V6 engine with twin TD04-09B turbo chargers that made, in
stock tune, 282bhp driving all four wheels via full time four-wheel drive via
5-speed manual transmission offering strong performance for its era with 0-60mph
dispatched in circa five seconds (some road tests suggest
less).
This example presents well, although
there are some marks to the paint/bodywork and a crack to the windscreen but it
started and ran as it should, the rorty exhaust causing more than a few to turn
and look to see what it is. Bar the sporty exhaust and after market wheels, the
car looks to be in relatively stock tune with only an after market air filter
and polished short metal hard intake pipe, blow off valve and some blue
Samco style hosing visible under the bonnet which are common mods.
Inside
the cockpit, we find sporty grey cloth seats with electronic driver lumbar and
bolster adjustment, cruise control, active-aero, traction control, digital
climate control (we could not see anything on the display), pop-up headlights,
usable rear seats, power folding mirrors, electric windows (see image of
driver’s door controls), Sony radio/CD player and the usual array of gauges and
other toys.
Showing 138,845 miles/Km on the
odometer its unclear if this is still recording in KM or has been converted (as
with the speedo facia) to miles so this could well be an amalgamation of both
which is not uncommon.
The history file
includes the V5C revealing five former UK keepers to our vendor along with an
old V5C and bill for a timing belt purchase in December 2021 along with the
current MOT valid until December 2022 recording just one advisory for ‘weld
repairs and corrosion to floor and sills’ which might be worth considering when
bidding.
These earlier GTO Twin Turbos can be
very capable and very fast 2+2 GT cars with proper 90’s good looks, active aero
and all-wheel drive with a manual box.
