Description
1959 Morris Minor Convertible
Genuine factory
car; lovely state of preservation; a super example with a snug hood; ready for
immediate enjoyment
This
charming, original '59 Tourer in Smoke Grey with contrasting interior (leather
seats)) has had just seven owners from new, the current being the son
of the previous owner who bought it on his retirement some 11 years
ago.
It
is clearly a car that has enjoyed a charmed life as evidenced by the condition
of the original interior as well as the underside which appears to be
completely sound and unwelded - unlike the vast majority!
As
one would expect, she has had some remedial paintwork over the years, but
apart from a small amount of flaking to the lower part of the boot lid, the
bodywork is largely sound and blemish free. The panel fit is also exceptionally
good and consistent with an original, unrestored example.
On
a recent road test she started promptly and performed well with smooth gear
changes, the only defect noticed was a slight weakness on 2nd gear synchromesh
when changing down (nature of the beast).
The
hood has been replaced at some time in the fairly recent past and fits snugly.
In fact, the owner was caught in a shower on his way here and has confirmed that
the rain did not penetrate at all!.
A
Brake Servo is the only deviation from standard and helps to rein her in with
minimal effort, the car driving as one would expect.
The
Morris 1000 is a surprising good car to drive, thanks to the excellent
rack and pinion steering wheel and torquey A-Series engine. Couple this with
open top motoring and one can see why these Convertibles enjoy such
enduring popularity. This genuine little car comes with its original
handbook and an invoice for a comprehensive service this time last year, since
when just a few miles have been covered.
