1954 Land Rover Series I 86"
A good sound
usable example; from long term ownership; free-wheeling hubs
This
appealing and usable 86" petrol Land Rover has been with our vendor for the last
19 years. The BMIHT Heritage Certificate tells us of a Home Market vehicle,
green of course, which was supplied through the Midland Autocar Company in
Leamington Spa. It was built on 15th February 1954 and despatched the following
day. The Warwickshire number OUE 356 appears to be the original and remains
transferable.
The vendor has fitted free wheeling hubs, which take a lot
of stress, noise and petrol out of the equation and tells us that it runs and
drives well and the transmission works as it should. It has had some minor
repairs to the chassis and bulkhead as one would expect, but it has been dry
stored and well cared for since acquisition.
It had a new camshaft
and followers in 2004 and a rear main seal, following which it has been a
paragon of reliability and just great fun to drive.
The purists will have
something to say about the shade of green, the indicators and the later steering
wheel, but they will like the Pork Pie rear lights, while the every day driver
will like the heater, recent tilt, side screens and towbar. It also looks to
have had a stainless silencer fitted and the carb is a non standard SU fed
through a very recent electric SU pump.
Sitting nice and squarely on its
springs, this is a particularly sound and usable example and looks excellent
value at the suggested guide price.
