1991 TVR V8S
Two owners; recommissioned at
great expense in 2020; reconditioned interior and recent respray; great fun to
drive with an unmistakable V8 rumble
History on
file for this dates back to 1991 when this tasty Monza red V8 was sold by TVR
dealers Ackrill Automotive to its first owner in London for
£24,335.
Serviced by Ackrills and other TVR
specialists in 1991 (1,349 miles), 1992 (7,277 miles), 1994 (15,990 miles), 1995
(25,165 miles) and 1997 (43,083 miles), its then London owner had a slight
disagreement with a van in 1999 which led to a replacement bonnet.
Fortunately, there was not enough damage to write it off.
There are countless bills for general maintenance and servicing
during the '90s and '00s and it was regularly driven and put through MOTs up to
2013 by which time it had reached 83,000 miles. The following year,
the car was taken off the road due to an overheating problem. This appears to
have involved taking most of the car apart and after realising in 2020
that the owner had bitten off a little more than he could chew, he offered
it for sale on ebay.
It was sold to our vendor
who claims it was in quite a sorry state, but fortunately a lot of the more
perishable parts such as the seating, carpets and door cards were stored
elsewhere in dry storage.
Having
been rescued, the car was comprehensively rebuilt. The heads were skimmed
and pressure tested, the sump removed and cleaned and a new oil pump fitted.
Further work included new pressure switches, hydraulic lifters,
water pump, hoses, radiator, thermostat, ignition leads, spark plugs,
reconditioned alternator, power flow induction kit ( k&n ), stainless steel
exhaust including manifolds, fully adjustable coil over suspension, brake pipes
with braided hoses, ball joints top and bottom, track rod ends, brake pads,
wheels and tyres. The list goes on with new lights, an alarm/immobilizer, new
DAB radio and of course the respray which is clear when one sees the
car.
It is a TVR
after all so there will always be something to occupy the keen weekend fettler,
but nothing seems very serious any more. The windows need a little encouragement
going up and down, the central locking sometimes has a mind of its own but who
locks cars any more?
Paperwork on file goes back to
day one and brings it up to the MOT it passed in April this year with no
advisories. Great fun to drive, it sounds awesome and will get you noticed
everywhere. Happy driving…..(and bidding….)
