2001 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Cabriolet
(996)
Nicely optioned 3.4 litre six-speed manual
example boasting split rim wheels, factory hard top and just 32,500 miles
covered - Investment Alert!
Supplied new by
Merlin Cambria Porsche of Cardiff in January 2001 this pre-facelift 996
generation of 911 comes to us in desirable Carrera 2 Cabriolet guise and is
finished in Orient Red Metallic (L8A3) which is a rare colour (special order
coming from the Porsche Exclusive Programme, option 09991 on the options list)
and sits upon 18” staggered fitment split-rim Porsche Sport design alloy wheels
(XRL) shod in Pirelli P-Zero tyres on the rear and Continentals on the front.
Slung out back, we find the 3.4-litre flat-six
engine which develops 296bhp and drives the rear wheels here via desirable
six-speed manual transmission, the engine sounding particularly good courtesy of
the Sports exhaust (or back box, unclear) and looking extra sharp with the
fitment of the rear spoiler which may also have been part of the 09991
programme, or added retrospecively. We believe the car was a dealer demonstrator
initially according to a note on file from the vendor which may lend insight to
the tasty spec we see. We also note fitment of the facelift MY2002
smoked front and rear lights which did away with the Boxster style "fried egg"
headlights of the pre-02 cars (orange front indicators).
Inside, we find black leather sports seats (983) with electric
adjustment to both (375 & 376), heated front seats (139 & 340), electric windows,
electric mirrors, top-tinted windscreen (567), Porsche Traffic Pro radio/CD
player and CD changer (689), leather rear seats (936), leather dash and door
panels (981 ).We also find inclusion of the body coloured factory removable
hard-top with electric black Mohair hood underneath and useful wind deflector
(551).
This super 996 has covered just 32,315
miles with the supporting history file including the V5C revealing just two
former keepers to the current of 15 years, the owner’s pack and service book
recording 11 stamps, the last in May 2020 at 31,967 miles by Brecon Motors which
included a new fuel pump and battery in addition to the routine service. The
service book also contains a further two stamps for brake fluid changes and one
for Long Life condition report.
The car comes
with 11 old MOTs plus the current MOT valid until May 2023 which recorded two
minor advisories for perishing/cracked front tyres. Bar that, the car looks and
sounds very sharp in a rare special-order colour with removable
hardtop, low miles and low owners with a proper manual gearbox – there’s much to
like. Quality low mileage manual 996 generation 911’s, particularly in driver
focused Carrera 2 guise are becoming harder to find and as such values have
risen in line with demand. Strike
whilst the iron is hot!
