1970 MGC Roadster
Last of the line Roadster;
University Motors supplied; power steering; a well sorted example
The last
176 MGCs were purchased jointly from the Abingdon factory by University
Motors and Downton Performance in various states of completion - presumably at a
knock-down price to be completed by the two firms. Their deal was that they
had to be first registered to University Motors, thus making them second hand
cars when delivered to their first real customers, presumably to
distance MG from the end user as they had no control on the completion
process.
This smart BRG Roadster carries a plaque on the dash
proclaiming it to have been supplied by them and records show it was orginally
Sandy Beige, although the chassis number also states it was a GT which
remains a mystery.
There are restoration photos dating from the early
2000s, showing a thorough restoration and the car was clearly a Roadster then,
it maybe that things got swapped about when it was constructed by UML back
in the day.
It was sold in 2005 by Bonhams, who stated
the 33,000 miles then showing was believed correct, a figure which has
risen to some 42,521 miles today which shows it has done little work since then
at the very least.
It sports attractive BRG paintwork and cream leather
upholstery and comes with an overdrive and MGOC hydraulic power steering making
it most appealing to drive. It also sits on wire wheels and has a stainless
exhaust.
There are lots of old MOTs in the history file and notes which
state it was sold in 2008 to Malvern, 2011 saw it in Helston, Cornwall and
then it was taken to Jersey in 2013. During this period, it was looked after by
Le Riche, the local experts on the island.
In 2016 it came back to Herefordshire and its owner enjoyed trips to
Bordeaux, Spain and Portugal.
This interesting and well presented MGC
comes with University Motors provenance and makes a practical, rapid and
easy to use package.
