1981 MGB Roadster

Only 13,140 miles from new; one-family-owned from 1983 - 2022; a proper timewarp!

This MGB Roadster was sold new by Mann Egerton of Derby in March 1981 to first owner Mr D Daykin and was originally registered as NRR 371W. He then discovered that his wife was pregnant with twins so just a year after he had bought the MGB, he traded it in for a Ford Granada Estate at TC Harrison Ford of Derby where it was soon bought by a staff member, Mr Michael Muscroft. In 1996 he sold it to his son Maxwell who put his personalised number on the car, 1180 MM, and was to keep it right up until 2022.

Always kept garaged and used very sparingly, it has only covered 13,140 miles from new, as documented by 24 old MOTs on file. In storage from 2007 – 2014, it was then recommissioned and re-registered as CCA 28W.

Various invoices show routine upkeep over the years, including a new radiator and water pump in 2017, but other than that the car appears to be pretty much as it left the factory, although we suspect that the wire wheels are perhaps later additions, as is the battery cut-off switch behind the driver’s seat.

Our vendor, effectively the third owner (although the V5C records four former keepers because it was briefly registered to TC Harrison before Mr Muscroft bought it), acquired the car in April last year and has covered 1,000 trouble-free miles in it since.

Although it no longer needs one (being classed as a Historic Vehicle on the V5C), it has an MOT valid until December 2023 with no advisories recorded. Supplied with a tonneau cover and a hood cover, it also retains its original handbook and Passport to Service book, still in the original wallet.

Starting promptly and running well as we have moved it around on site, with good 55psi oil pressure, it does have a couple of paintwork blemishes here and there (it was built by British Leyland after all!) but is otherwise in timewarp condition throughout.
