Description
Genuine factory built Tourer; recently restored with many new parts
and a full repaint; later 1,098cc unleaded engine; transferable number; a smart
example of Britain's cutest convertible!
First
registered in Surrey in November 1959, this Morris Minor Series III is a genuine
factory made Tourer (hence the M-AT chassis prefix).
From 2016 – 2020 it was owned by one of the mechanics who worked
for Riley specialist Keith Pointing. He spent over three years restoring the
car, invoices on file for parts alone amounting to some £6,200, the parts being
mainly supplied by ESM Morris Minors. These included new seat foams and covers,
new carpets, new hood, new bumpers, new brakes, new tyres plus a host of other
trim and mechanical parts. It was also treated to a bare metal repaint in
black.
Our vendor acquired the Minor in 2020 to
join a collection of cars and has continued to look after it well, including a
full service, rear brake overhaul and a new electronic fuel pump. He reports
that it runs and drives nicely, an invoice on file showing that it was fitted
with a fully rebuilt 1,098cc engine and an unleaded head in 2004. He also
reports that the semaphore indicators work as they should and now also
flash (rather than just illuminate) as an additional safety feature.
In 2021 the Moggie took part in The Classic
Motor Hub ‘Drive It Day Treasure Hunt’, a day-long navigation rally around the
Cotswolds, emerging victorious against some far more exotic machinery. The
winner’s trophy and the rosette are included with the car, as is a copy of Ray
Newell’s definitive book on the Morris Minor and several copies of the Morris
Minor Owners Club magazine.
Starting promptly and running sweetly as we have moved it around on
site, this is a most attractive Tourer all round. The icing on the cake is the
original 671 MPB number plate which is transferable and doubtless has a value of
its own.
