Description
Early pull-handle model in wonderfully original condition; effectively
two local owners and only 70k miles from new; one for the MG
connoisseur!
This
delightful MGB Roadster was supplied new via Colmore Depot of Worcester to a
Miss Evans of Castle Morton in June 1963 as a gift for her 21st
birthday. An early pull-handle model with the 95bhp three-main-bearing
crankshaft B-Series engine, 330 VFK was finished in Chelsea Grey with a red
leather interior and was to remain in her family until 1990.
It comes with an excellent early service history comprising 10
stamps in the book up to 27,091 miles in November 1967, the first four services
at Colmore Depot then one at Four Ways Garage and the last five by Everstone
Garage of Peterstow with supporting invoices. There are also invoices for
another eight services up to 48,097 miles in May 1975, giving 18 services in all
at an average interval of just 2,700 miles – pretty impressive by any standards.
Our vendor, effectively the second owner,
acquired the car from the Evans family in 1990 when it had covered around 68,000
miles according to old MOTs on file. Proprietor of a well-known classic car
workshop just a stone’s throw from Castle Morton, he treated the car to new
inner and outer sills, new front wings and lower door skins but states that it
is otherwise totally original. He also states that although it has an overdrive
switch on the dash, it doesn't actually have this feature.
Sparingly used during the current 33-year ownership (including a
trip to the MG International gathering at Silverstone in 2009 and to the MGB
50th Anniversary Celebration at Blenheim Palace in 2012), the car is
now showing a whisker over 70,000 miles which is correct. We are told that it
has recently been serviced but the vendor forgot to change the rear axle oil so
he advises that the next owner attends to this. He also advises that there is a
cut-off switch hidden under the rev counter as a security
measure.
As you can see in the photos,
330 VFK is a proper little time capsule and looks great on its steel wheels with
a black canvas soft top and original red tonneau cover. Driven some 30 miles to
the sale, it comes with a pleasing file of history and has been starting
promptly and running sweetly as we have moved it around on site with good 45psi
oil pressure.
