Description
A most presentable Sports Saloon retaining its lovely original
upholstery; large sunroof; instant starter; a fine quality car in all respects;
lots of history
First registered on 22nd May 1931, this Talbot 75
salon would have been an expensive and deliberate choice back in the day. Their
reputation for refinement and reliabilty had been forged thanks to their
relationship with Fox and Nichol who prepared cars for the track, with notable
performances at Le Mans - they were not the car for the
everyman.
There is a considerable history file with this car, including
some super letters from a previous owner in the early 1960s who confirmed it was
purchased new by a Vicar (who employed a chauffeur). The car had been
acquired in 1935 by his father, with about 33,000 miles on the clock, and passed
on to him. There are some bills dated 1945, when presuamably it was fettled back
onto the road and by 1960, it had still only covered a genuine 82,657 miles.
There are several original tax discs dating from the late 1950s.
By the
early 2000s, it was living in Germany, with bills on file from many UK suppliers
showing plenty of investment including a full rebuild for the radiator with a
new Gallay core by the Vintage Radiator Company.
By 2004 it had come
home, and was sold by Gavin McGuire to our vendor's late father who was to
cherish the car and keep it in fine working order. An old MOT from 2001 shows an
indicated mileage of 92,572 and it now shows 96,239 which is thought to be
correct.
The bodywork is in very good order with the doors opening and
shutting beautifully and the vast sunroof opening smoothly. The leather
upholstery is a joy to behold and it has been starting instantly.
There
is lots of interesting reading in the folder too, with copy brochures and a
Profile Publications booklet etc.
If a quality Pre-War saloon is on your
radar, look no further...
