Older
restoration in good order throughout; later 1,275cc engine; fast road cam, high
lift rockers and rolling road tune showing 83bhp; chrome wire wheels; round
arches; a sporty little Midget that is ready to enjoy
First
registered in June 1963, this MG Midget has had just six owners from new,
according to the V5C, and comes with a good file of invoices to show regular
upkeep over the years.
From 1987 to 1998 it was owned by a Mr James of
Newport who had the bodywork restored by the MG Centre Cardiff in 1990 at a cost
of £3,292 (new wings, sills, door shells, waxoil treatment, repaint in black
etc). It was presumably converted to the round wheelarch style at this time
(pre-1972 Midgets having square rear wheelarches). In 1995 at c.91,000 miles it
had another bout of expenditure including a new duck hood, new steering rack,
track rod ends, shock absorbers etc.
From 2000 to 2021 it was owned by a
Mr Reynolds of Pontypool who seems to have used it very lightly, old MOTs
showing that it has only covered around 2,000 miles in the last 22 years.
Fitted with a later 1,275cc engine with a fast road cam at some point,
we are told it has also been fitted with high lift rockers. In 2022, it had a
further bout of fettling including an overhaul of the carbs, new sports coil,
Powerspark electronic distributor, performance HT leads, new plugs, oil, filter
etc. It was then rolling road tuned by Nutts Performance of Pontypool, dyno
sheets showing that the engine now produces 83bhp - compared to 65bhp as
standard.
Obviously tax and MOT exempt, it did recently fly through an
MOT on 17th January 2024. Riding on chrome wire wheels, it's a fun and
frisky machine and holds its original (transferable) Sussex-issue
registration number, 964 KPX.
