Choice upgrades; recent respray; intriguing history
First
registered in September 1972 and showing 62,935 miles, this charming V8 MGB GT
recently benefitted from a full respray in its original black. Fitted with a
Weber carburettor and starting promptly, this MG is rumoured to have Costello
connections and was previously owned by Mike Randal ('Mike the Pipe'), a
manufacturer of high quality exhausts who supplied most Formula 1 teams in
the '70s.
Presenting in nice 'useable' condition, the front seats
have been retrimmed in the original brown vinyl, the rear seats look to be
original in brown fabric and vinyl, the car looks well after its trip to the
bodyshop some 8 months ago. Although never intended to be a show queen, the
paintjob is good and holds its own in our classic garage.
Under the
bonnet we find the trusty Rover 3.5-Litre V8 with a dusting of choice upgrades,
putting all its power to the rear wheels via a 4-speed manual transmission with
overdrive. There are also additional gauges on the dash top.
Coming with
a good bunch of invoices and paperwork, a hand-written note gives an intriguing
look back into the car's past with notes of servicing, new parts and previous
owners dating far back into the '70s, various old MOT certificates and '80s
tax discs.
Starting on the button and running well on site, this is a
great opportunity to take home a V8 MGB that only needs some minor fettling to
get it ready for the summer.
