Only
45,000 miles from new with 18 services to date, the last under 2,000 miles ago;
recent new tyres; driven 200 miles to the sale; a most impressive Bentley in a
lovely colour scheme
Launched in 1980, the Mulsanne was effectively
a Bentley version of the new Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit and was virtually
identical apart from a different radiator treatment and a more sporting
interior.
In 1982 a Turbo version joined the range with 50% more power,
sports suspension, sports seats, a revised centre console and alloy wheels. This
was followed in 1987 by the Mulsanne S, which shared all the sporting features
of the Turbo model but retained a normally aspirated version of the familiar
6,750cc V8 engine, now fitted with Bosch Jetronic fuel injection.
With
taut handling and gliding to 60mph in 10 seconds, it was plenty quick enough for
most owners and is also pretty rare - just 909 Mulsanne S models were
produced (plus another 61 in stretched LWB form) before it was replaced by the
very similar Brooklands in 1992.
First registered in August 1990, this
lovely Mulsanne S has covered only 45,039 miles from new and comes with a good
service history comprising 17 stamps in the book, the first 14 by Rolls-Royce
main agents Mead of Burnham and the last by Balmoral of Bromsgrove at 25,498
miles in May 2007 which included new hydraulic brake accumulator spheres and
waxoil treatment to the underside and the wheel arches.
Our vendor
acquired the car in August 2022 and had it serviced the following month by
Rolls-Royce specialists West Hoathly Garage of Sussex at 43,067 miles. We are
told that the car had been fitted with a new set of Bridgestone tyres just
before our vendor acquired it and while there is no invoice for this, they
certainly look fairly new.
As you can see in the photos, it
looks most attractive with Midnight Blue paintwork,
a lovely Silverstone hide interior and the quad headlamps that were
fitted from 1990-onwards. Clearly well looked after, it hides its 34 years
remarkably well.
The
MOT history is also most impressive, with barely any advisories throughout its
life apart from a few minor issues with the parking brake. The current MOT runs
to May 2025 and again has no advisories. Driven some 200 miles to the sale, it
has been starting instantly and running beautifully as we have moved it
around on site.
Retaining all its original handbooks in the original
leather wallet, this smart low-mileage Bentley looks an absolute steal at
the modest guide price suggested.
