Lot Ended
Description
Current owner for 12 years; meticulously restored
and looking wonderful throughout
First registered
in Wiltshire in July 1926, this gorgeous Austin 7 AD Tourer has been in the
current ownership since 2012 and has been subject to a meticulous restoration
over the last few years resulting in the magnificent specimen you see
today.
The full extent of the work carried out is
far too detailed to list in full here but is amply covered in many invoices on
file.
Highlights include: bodywork restored and
repainted in cellulose; full engine rebuild with new pistons, bearings etc;
Zenith carb rebuilt; 3-speed gearbox rebuilt with new bearings etc; complete new
clutch kit; new radiator; new starter ring gear; new 4.9:1 crown wheel and
pinion; back axle rebuilt (early banjo type); brakes and suspension fully
rebuilt with many new parts.
All new wiring with
armoured cables; magneto, dynamo and regulator rebuilt; ‘bacon slicer’ starter
motor rebuilt.
Fully retrimmed interior including
new seat foams and vinyl covers with new runners, rails and sliders. The speedo
has also been restored. All five wheels rebuilt and fitted with a set of 350x19
Blockley tyres with inner tubes. New exhaust system and manifold. New hood and
side-screens.
Documentation includes the current
V5C plus two older V5Cs and the original buff logbook. A dozen old MOTs show
that the car was in light regular use from 1997 – 2012 prior to the restoration.
It also has a VSCC Eligibility Document issued in 2014. It may interest bidders
to note that the Ifor Williams trailer that has been used to transport this car
is also on offer in this sale - Lot 73.
Since the restoration was
completed about 8 years ago, the car has been lightly used on various VSCC
events and has also been used on two holidays in France, the vendor reporting
that it drove very well and was much admired. Last driven about three years ago
due to health reasons (the vendor, not the car!), it will doubtless benefit from
a precautionary check-over before returning to the road once
more.
As you can see in the photos,
this Chummy looks terrific and you would be hard pressed to find a
smarter example. On offer here at a very attractive guide price, it would sit
well in any collection.
