Description
A modern take on the classic MG TF; one of just 161 built;
here in TF1700 form with 4-speed manual; full weather gear; showing just 29,000
miles; clean MOT; much recent expenditure
Dating from December 1989,
this rather attractive car is a modern take on the classic MG TF1500, built in
Bradford by Naylor Cars and the Hutson Motor Co. between 1984 and 1992 during
which time approximately 161 cars were made.
This example has
been with our vendor since September 2017 and is only very reluctantly for sale
due to ill-health, the drive to Brightwells likely his
last.
Finished in traditional
British Racing Green with black Mohair hood and side-screens and sat on
center-knock wire wheels the car looks remarkably similar to a real TF, here
discreetly badged TF1700 with useful polished luggage carrier to the
rear.
Under the bonnet, we find a
Morris Ital sourced 1700cc four-cylinder petrol engine on carbs driving the rear
wheels via four-speed manual transmission.
Inside, we find a beige
leather interior and wood effect dash with heater, basic switchgear and black
carpets.
The car shows 29,608 miles and
presents largely well with some signs of limited bubbling to both door skins and
on the fuel tank lower corner (as pictured) but boasts shiny chrome, a smart
hood and comfortable interior.
The accompanying history file
includes the V5C recording just one former keeper to our vendor, his purchase
receipt from 2017, a spare pair of black and white number plates, workshop
manual, Haynes manual, spare wing mirrors, book entitled “The Naylor &
Hutson TF1700 Story”, photos, 27 old MOTs, current MOT valid until March 2025
with no advisories, original brochure, owner’s pack, handbook and service book
showing one stamp from 1990 at 1,032 miles by Hutson and file of bills
dating back to 1990 plus the original purchase order dated September 1989 from
Hutson for £16,600.
Invoices show a replacement
wheel bearing was fitted in March 2022, £905 was spent in February 2022 on
replacing the gearbox, clutch, the flywheel spigot bearing plus crankshaft front
and rear oil seals. The brake
callipers were refurbished and the car serviced in October 2016 at 27,141 miles
and new timing belt purchased in November 2017. Lumenition Magnetronic ignition
system was fitted in 2010 with replacement front wings and running boards
(fiberglass) fitted in 2006.
A sweet example of this rare
‘modern take’ on the classic '50s TF that looks like good fun and has a nice KSV
136 private plate as a bonus.
